ensæmble: Relætion Studies

Alisa Närvänen and Elina Peltonen have been working together in entwined ways under the name of ensæmble since 2011. They share a background in fashion and an interest in things where art and life collide.

“When making clothing we work with the negative of the body, enwrapping and encapsulating the physical figure. That is to say, we construct borders that follow the length of the arms, the width of the hips and the size of the feet. We work with centimeters and millimeters measured against the skin.

While remaining curious about the human scale and the negative form, our first solo exhibition questions the seeming solidity of the body. Rather, it sees its borders as being constantly shaped through contact with people around us. The exhibition presents a research of the subject and employs a variety of techniques from photography to sculpture. It collects both the processes and results of the investigation and presents a polyphonic inquiry into how we share space, bodies and life altogether.”

The exhibition has been supported by the Arts Promotion Centre Finland and is part of Pre Helsinki programme.
